The Saginaw County Medical Society (SCMS) is the professional association of over 450 practicing and retired physicians of all specialties located throughout Saginaw County. The SCMS has existed in its present form since 1902. Since that early beginning, the SCMS has concerned itself with both its professional membership as well as the community it serves. The Saginaw County Medical Society works with the media in order to help the Saginaw community understand new treatments and proven methods to stay healthy. The Saginaw County Medical Society works to help area legislators understand the impact of proposed legislation on physicians' ability to serve patients. The Saginaw County Medical Society works with physicians and their patients when misunderstandings occur, and the doctor-patient relationship is threatened. The Saginaw County Medical Society provides information for patients seeking new doctors. The Saginaw County Medical Society continues to support health education. The Saginaw County Medical Society Foundation was formed in 1969, funded through physician donation of earnings from educational and charity work. The Foundation makes low interest loans to medical students with ties to the Saginaw area. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact the Saginaw County Medical Society office. The Historical Committee of the Saginaw County Medical Society was instrumental in the compiling of a medical history of Saginaw County. To purchase a copy of The History of Saginaw County Medicine by Anita M. Fisk, please contact the Saginaw County Medical Society office. The Board of the Saginaw County Medical Society meets every month. The membership meets once each month, September through May. The Saginaw County Medical Society works in tandem with the Michigan State Medical Society and in affiliation with the American Medical Association.
